Based on the Montessori philosophy, our classroom is set up to meet the needs and provide a stimulating learning environment for children ages 2 through 5 years. The room is arranged with areas or "centers" where materials are presented beautifully and neatly for the children to work with.
While each age group will have materials that are intended for his or her own level, the child is free to move forward at a pace that meets his or her own individual development. In addition, the children learn from each other as the younger ones absorb what they see from the older ones. Further, the older children reinforce their newly acquired knowledge by explaining and instructing the younger ones. This interaction between the younger and older children is of benefit to both.
The classroom belongs to the children. It is their classroom. They have access to all materials as they are presented on low shelves that the children can reach. They do not need to depend on a teacher to get materials down from the shelves. They are encouraged to care for all these materials treating them with respect. This care and respect will transfer to the care and respect of their home and the environment. It is through this opportunity to control their own small environment that the children learn to feel in control of themselves and become independent and self-reliant.
Every child will have his or her own individual program plan which will be developed between the teacher and the parents. Long term goals as well as short term goals will be made and reviewed on a regular basis.
These goals can range anywhere from potty-training, sharing ones toys, expressing ones feelings and needs, to mastering numbers and the aleph-beis. your child will be supported by a warm, caring, and nurturing staff who will gently encourage him or her to reach these goals. Our desire is to allow your child to blossom into his or her own individual uniqueness.
Finally, and most importantly, we will have "fun". Our classroom will be filled with songs and laughter each day. Your child will effortlessly absorb knowledge as he or she explores the materials in the classroom, participates in activities, and is surrounded with the joys of Judaism.
